Homophones

One of the problems that Spanish speaker find with English vocabulary is the fact that there are words that sound the same but are written in a different way and, obviously, they have different meanings. Have you ever come across one of these words?

These words are called HOMOPHONES and, as I have mentioned before, they are words that are pronounced exactly the same, but are completely different.

English has more homophones than most languages because its pronunciation has changed a lot over time, while the way we write has changed very little. Many words have been borrowed from other languages through the centuries and this explains why English spelling is so weird for us, Spanish speakers.

Regarding this topic, some days ago I received an email from Alejandra Villalobos who, as way of thanking me for helping her learning English through this blog, sent me a very interesting webpage with some of these homophones. She said that it had helped her a lot to as a non-native speaker of English. Thanks Alejandra, for contributing to help other people sharing this knowledge.

If you click the image, you can access the webpage Alejandra send with homophones.

I hope it helps you in your jouney of learning!
